The workshop will start with a short performance‚ Land of the Underneath, which will lead us into the universe of sound and movement making, a place where we become aware of sounds, create sounds, move in the space of sounds and tell stories through these sounds with our bodies.
Participants will then create their own musical instruments from junk and found objects, find ways to use them and improvise music and rhythm to find out how the body can become a character in your own story!
About the presenters:
Brendon Bussy is sometimes called a sound artist. But he prefers the less threatening description ‘mandolin player’. Or just the old fashioned ‘composer’. Except when he’s designing odd sounding musical instruments. Or creating a live electronic soundtrack. Then ‘inventor’ is good. Brendon creates useful sound for theater, and lives in Cape Town. http://brendonbussy.wordpress.com/
Jori Snell’s playful performances transform her versatile training in physical theatre, dance, martial arts, mime and butoh-related work into a very personal language, often inspired by a weird, humorous, and grotesque universe. Her company Baba Yaga Theatre combines physical theatre with fairytales, myth, poetry, special props and the creation of magical visual pictures. Her focus in her teaching is the unique expression in each individual, be it through theatre, dance, singing, or storytelling.
