elev(i)ate2 is a solo Physical Theatre work created and performed by Athena Mazarakis. This work was awarded the Silver 2010 Standard Bank Ovation Award at the National Arts Festival in the Physical Theatre Category.

elev(i)ate2 is constructed using the visual data and experiences captured in an interactive installation elev(i)ate, which was created for the 2010 FNB Dance Umbrella.  The initial installation employed interactive digital media and invited a direct interaction between individual audience members and the performer which culminated in the simple exploration of a dance lift.  The staged work, elev(i)ate2 uses intimate projections of video footage of the participants in the installation, mime, dance and text alongside elements of the interactive digital arts interfaces to explore the metaphorical value of ‘the lift’.  It explores the themes of elevation and its associative quality of alleviation, of the metaphorical value of weight and weightlessness.  The work shifts between the poles of the comic and the poetic through its use of dance, mime, projection and spoken text.
